Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 Also Get Patch Tuesday December 2021

Droidcops.COM – Microsoft has released the latest Patch Tuesday update for Windows 8.1 KB5008263 and Windows 7 KB5008244. Both updates fixed several issues that existed in both OSes, including a number of known issues. Here’s what the new update brings.

Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2

This security update contains the improvements and fixes that were part of update KB5007247 that was released on November 9, 2021 and contains fixes for the following issues:

• Fixed a known issue that caused errors with codes 0x0000006e4, 0x0000007 or 0x000000709 when connecting a remote printer that was shared on a Windows print server.
• Fixed an issue that might prevent some applications such as Kaspersky from opening, after you tried to repair or update those applications using the Microsoft Installer.

Another known issue in this update is that some operations such as rename, performed on files or folders residing on a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) may fail with the error message ‘STATUS_BAD_IMPERSONATION_LEVEL’. This happens when you perform operations on a proprietary CSV node without having admin privileges.

To work around this, perform an action from a process that has admin privileges, or perform an action from a node that doesn’t have CSV ownership. Microsoft is still working on a solution to this problem, and it will ship in the next update.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

This security update contains several improvements and fixes that are part of update KB5007236 dated November 9, 2021, and will fix issues such as those in Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 above.

The known issue with this update is that, after you install this update and restart your device, you may get an error with the message ‘Failure to Configure Windows Updates. Reverting Changes. Don’t turn off your computer’, and the update may show a failed status in the update history.

Microsoft says that the issue occurs when a user installs an update on a device running an edition that doesn’t support ESU. But if you already have ESU but are still having this problem, make sure you have applied all the required conditions and the key has been activated.
